Discover the Magic of Cape Town: 6 Must-Do Activities for an Unforgettable Experience!

Cape Town is Africa’s most popular city for tourists and travelers. But believe it or not, there are more things to do in Cape Town than just visiting the V&A Waterfront. Pack your bags and prepare yourself because we’re about to explore 10 Things To Do In Cape Town That You don’t want to miss!

#1 Spend time at some beaches

Capetown has some of the most beautiful beaches, way too many for you to visit in one trip. While I was there I visited quite a few and here are my favorites. If you’re visiting during the summer and spring these are a must.

MUIZENBERG BEACH

Muizenberg beach is one of South Africa’s best-kept secrets and I’m spilling the beans. It’s located in a small suburb of Cape town. It has the most beautiful mountain views and the waters are perfect for swimming. It’s not filled with tourists so you will have a perfect beach day where it seems you have the beach to yourself.

It’s best for swimming, views, surfing, and taking pictures of the beautiful colorful changing rooms that aren’t located anywhere else in the world.

BOULDERS BEACH

Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach in Simon’s town. The unique thing about this beach is you can swim with the wild penguins in the area. The one thing I would keep in might is this is a small beach and there is a small fee to enter, this is a very busy tourist spot because a lot of people want pictures with the penguins. So make time to go toward low tide where there aren’t many penguins out.

The beach is best for penguin watching, swimming, and lounging around.

CAMPS BAY & LLANDUDNO BEACH

Camps Bay Beach is Cape Town’s Party/Fun Beach it is right on the boardwalk and filled with bars, and restaurants. It’s a very long beach with beautiful white sand. The water is freezing but during the summer the sun is HOT so it turns out to be perfect once you get in. When you plan to come here, Pack a lunch, grab a drink on the board walk spend the full day on the beach.

This beach is great for sunbathing, relaxing, and views of the 12 apostle mountain.

Llandudno Beach is the complete opposite and is not too far from Camps Bay Beach. Llandudno Beach is located in a small community. It’s actually the same community as the Airbnb we stayed in. It’s quiet and romantic and you get to catch beautiful views of the sunset. It’s perfect for couples because it has a romantic feel and for families, because it’s nice and quiet. It’s also great for surfers.

#2 GO SCUBA DIVING

Cape Town is one of the best snorkeling destinations. It’s unique and has so many beaches that each dive will be different.

I found Kobus on Airbnb he offers guided snorkeling experiences and he’s amazing. Matt and I have been scuba diving before so we were new to the experience but if you’ve never been scuba diving before don’t worry. Kobus specializes in first time scuba experiences, this is something you have to do. The underwater world of Cape Town is unreal, you’ll experience underwater forest filled with kelp trees, exotic fish ,and sharks. It’s a once in a lifetime bucket list experience.

#3 Cultural Experience

As a black traveler, South Africa was a culture shock with Apartheid ending not too long ago you really see the segregation and separation in the country, especially in Cape, Town.

This is where Bulelani comes in. Matt showed me his airbnb experience and I had to book it. He’s a qualified Tour Guide with immense experience in Cape Town’s  culture. He shows you the black excellence in cape town, and gives you a glimps of what it is like to live in capetown as a minority and introduces you to food, black owned restarunts and the only black owned brewy in the city.

While spending the day with him he surprised matthew and I with tickets to see Thandiswa Mazwai one of the most influencial south african muscisian of this generation. He made this experince unique and special.

#4 VISIT STELLENBOSCH

Stellenbosch is a town in Western Cape about 30 miles from Cape Town. It is the wine and food capital of south Africa. This wine region is filled with tons of wine estates and vineyards stretched as far as your eyes can see.

While in Stellenbosch, Matthew and I stayed in The Selene Hotel which I detail in another post. It was near a few wine estates so we didn’t have a hard time locating wine tastings or restaurants in the area.

If you are a wine lover you have to make time in your trip to spend a few days here.

#5 FRANSCHHOEK WINE TRAM

Speaking of wine, Hop on a wine tram and discover the wine valley of Franschhoek. This is a small city not too far from Stellenbosch this experience is the definition of Luxury. You get to see the breath-taking landscape of mountain and endless Vineyards.

While on the tram you get to try world class wine and dine in the most beautiful restaurants. I went for my birthday and it was the best birthday I’ve had in a while. Matthew and I did the pink line. Where we got to taste wine on Rickety Bridge Wine estate one of the only women owned wine estates in the city and Klein Goederust Wine Boutique the only black owned winery in the region.

#6 GOLD OPULENT AFRICAN CUISINE

Gold Restaurant offers an authentic African experience, as authentic as you can get in cape town I guess. You get a 14-course meal with dishes from all around the continent of Africa. You will try meats like Ostrich and exotic vegetables and spices you wouldn’t have anywhere else in the world.

They put on a show that tells a story of the history of Africa. You also get the opportunity to play some African drums if you get there early enough.

The trip was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. If you ever get the chance to visit capetown, take it!

-xoxo
