6 days in Morroco: A Travel Diary

Before I went to Morocco, North Africa I was told that it was a beautiful place that anyone would love. They were not wrong, after seeing the vibrant and culturally diverse culture of Morocco, I feel in love. My trip to Morocco took me around the country to Rabat, Fes, The Sahara Desert, and Marrakesh.

How you ask?

I found Moroccan Tours after a deep dive google search for the best tour to take in Morocco and I couldn’t be happier with the service!

This trip would not be possible without Moroccan Tours if you’re planning a trip to Morocco don’t hesitate to reach out to them and have them plan your trip and be your guide throughout the country.

Casablanca, Morocco: Morocco's Chief Port

As I mentioned before Moroccan Tours did an amazing job mapping out our trip but not only our trip but also our accommodations. We landed in Casablanca, Morocco at 11 am we were picked up by our guide Rachid. And immediately the tour started. Our first stop was lunch then The Hassan II Mosque it was built and partially funded by Hassan II. Its dramatic location, which is located on the ocean, reminded me of the verses from the Quran, which state that God’s throne was built on the water which was absolutely stunning. After a tour of the masque we started our journey to the capital of Morocco. Rabat.

Rabat, Morocco: Morocco's Capital

We got to Rabat with enough time to take a night walk after settling into our first hotel Zyo Riad.  The accommodations were beautiful and this riad did not disappoint. The only thing is this was my first experience of the hard beds in Morocco and I would soon find out it wasn’t the last time it would feel as though Matthew and I were sleeping on a tabletop.

The next day we had some time in Rabat where we visited The Hassan Tower, also known as the Great Mosque, which is a magnificent red sandstone structure that was constructed to commemorate Sultan’s victory over the Spaniards. It is one of the most prominent historical sites in the city of Rabat.

One of the highlights of my visit was the Kasbah of the Udayas, a fortress dating back to the 12th century. The site is known for its stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and charming blue and white buildings. Matthew and I had the chance to walk the grounds before heading off to Fes.

Fes, Morocco:The City of Handicrafts

To me Fes is more attractive, more interesting and less touristy than Marrakech. The city is filled with rich history, beautiful Riad’s and it is also the oldest city in Morocco which makes it not only more spiritual but also one of the most authentic city you will find in the country.

Moroccan Tours linked us with an amazing guide who toured us through out the entire city, we started by car and ended with a guided walking tour through the city. It felt like we traveled 2000 years back in time it was unreal.

Fes is renowned for its old town, Fes el Bali, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the sound of hustle and bustle, which was both invigorating and overwhelming. I found myself walking through tight alleys with locals haggling over prices in the market, the aroma of exotic spices filling the air. Some of the famous places I visited in Fes included the Al-Attarine Madrasa, which features intricate tilework and is a must-visit attraction. The Bou Inania madrasa is another marvel of Moorish architecture that I found captivating and Chaouwara Tammeries which has been around for almost 1000 year creating leather goods for the city.

The Sahara Desert

I headed towards the Sahara desert via the town of Erfoud. I was amazed by the vastness of the desert and the golden sand dunes that stretched as far as my eyes could see. Spending the night in a desert camp was a unique experience that I will never forget. The silence of the desert was punctuated by the occasional howl of a jackal or the gentle rustling of the wind. The night sky was breathtaking, with thousands of stars visible without light pollution.

Visting Marrakech

Marrakech is a city that exudes glamour and tradition in equal measure. The medina, or old town, contains the Bahia Palace, a symbol of luxury and elegance, surrounded by lush gardens. The evening entertainment in Marrakech is jaw-dropping, with snake charmers and street performers showcasing their talents in the main square, Jemaa el-Fnaa. I had enough time in the city to visit Chez- Ali a traditional dinner show more geared towards family entertainment. and Ja-mahal a dinner experience where you enjoy music, live belly dancers and fire throwing.

The benefits of traveling to Morocco are many. The country offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural wonders, offering something for everyone. The hospitality of the locals is warm and welcoming, and the food is a gastronomic delight. I highly recommend visiting Morocco and experiencing its charms firsthand don’t forget to check out Moroccan Tours to help with your travel experience.
