If you know me, you already know I’m a sucker for a good boutique hotel.

I love traveling, but for me, where I stay is just as important as where I go. Give me a beautiful hotel with character, an amazing location, and an experience that feels a little different from your typical resort any day.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to visit some pretty incredible places, and these are four countries and boutique hotels I think deserve a spot on your travel bucket list.

They’re all completely different, which is exactly why I love them. One will have you wandering through the historic streets of Morocco, another puts you in the middle of South Africa’s wine country, one feels like your own little Caribbean escape, and the last one has you surrounded by the desert in Namibia.

So let’s get into it.

Fes, Morocco

Morocco is one of those places that feels like you’re stepping into another world.

The architecture, the food, the colors, the markets, the history… there is just so much to take in. And while Marrakech tends to get a lot of attention, I think Fes is such a beautiful city to experience if you want to see a more historic and traditional side of Morocco.

Fes is home to one of the oldest medinas in the world, and honestly, getting lost in those winding streets is part of the experience.

Where to stay: Riad Salam Fes

If you’re going to Fes, I would definitely recommend staying in a riad instead of a traditional hotel.

Riad Salam Fes is located inside the historic medina, and the property itself feels like an extension of the destination. Think beautiful Moroccan tilework, traditional details, courtyards, terraces, a pool and a spa.

It’s the kind of hotel where you don’t just check in and sleep there. The hotel is part of the experience.s

And that’s one of my favorite things about boutique hotels. I don’t want my hotel to feel like it could be anywhere in the world. I want it to feel like I’m actually in Morocco.

Visit Morocco if: you’re into culture, architecture, incredible food, shopping, history and beautiful hotels with tons of character.

Stellenbosch, South Africa

If you’re planning a trip to South Africa, please don’t skip Stellenbosch.

It’s located in the Cape Winelands, so if you love wine, good food and beautiful scenery, you’re going to love this area.

Stellenbosch is surrounded by vineyards and mountains, and it has this really relaxed, elevated feeling that makes it perfect for a few days of slowing down and enjoying yourself.

And yes, obviously, you’re going to want to do some wine tasting while you’re there. 🍷

Where to stay: The Salene

The Salene is a boutique hotel located in Devon Valley in Stellenbosch, surrounded by the scenery that makes this part of South Africa so special.

What I love about this type of stay is that it gives you a completely different experience from staying in a big city hotel.

You can spend your day exploring wineries, eating good food and taking in the scenery, then come back to a beautiful, intimate property and just relax.

If you’re planning a romantic trip to South Africa or even a girls’ trip. I’d definitely put Stellenbosch on the itinerary.

Visit South Africa if: you love wine, food, beautiful scenery, wildlife, adventure and having a trip that gives you a little bit of everything.

Little Corn Island, Nicaragua

Okay, this one is for my “I just want to disappear somewhere beautiful for a few days” people. 😂

Nicaragua has been on my radar for a while because I love finding destinations that aren’t necessarily the first places everyone thinks about when they’re planning a vacation.

And Little Corn Island is exactly that.

It’s a small Caribbean island off the coast of Nicaragua where the pace is slower, the water is beautiful and you can really disconnect.

Where to stay: Yemaya Reefs

Yemaya Reefs is a beachfront retreat on Little Corn Island, and this is the kind of place I would book when I don’t want a packed itinerary.

You have the Caribbean Sea right outside your door, beautiful accommodations, a restaurant, spa experiences and plenty of opportunities to snorkel, dive, paddleboard or just lay around and do absolutely nothing.

And honestly? Sometimes that’s the vacation I need.

One of the things that makes Yemaya Reefs so special is that it doesn’t feel like a huge commercial resort. It feels much more intimate like you’re on your own private island.

If you’re looking for a Caribbean destination that feels a little more off the beaten path, put Little Corn Island on your list.

Visit Nicaragua if: you want beautiful beaches, adventure, great food, island life and a destination that feels less touristy.

Sossusvlei , Namibia

Namibia is probably one of the destinations on this list that I think people should be talking about WAY more.

If you’re someone who loves unique landscapes and trips that don’t feel like the same vacation everyone else is taking, Namibia needs to be on your radar.

The desert landscapes are absolutely unreal. We’re talking massive sand dunes, wide-open spaces, dramatic scenery and some of the most incredible sunsets.

It’s the type of destination where you will probably take a million pictures and still feel like your camera didn’t quite capture what you were seeing.

Where to stay: Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa

And then there’s Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa.

Located near Sossusvlei, this property looks like something out of a movie. The architecture is completely different from your typical desert lodge, and being surrounded by the Namib Desert makes the whole experience feel incredibly unique.

What I loved the most about this place was the room accommodations on the roof,  it was something I’ve never experienced. The views, the shooting stars, everything about it was magical.

You can spend your days exploring the desert, visiting Sossusvlei, taking in the dunes, or booking experiences like a scenic flight or hot-air balloon ride, then come back and enjoy the property and spa.

This is one of those places where the journey and the hotel are both part of the adventure.

Visit Namibia if: you want incredible landscapes, adventure, photography, wildlife and a travel experience that feels completely different from your everyday life.

So Which One would you visit?

If I had to pick four destinations that feel different from the typical vacation, these would definitely make my list.

🇲🇦 Fes, Morocco — for the culture and history
🇿🇦 Stellenbosch, South Africa — for the wine, food and scenery
🇳🇮 Little Corn Island, Nicaragua — for the Caribbean escape
🇳🇦 Namibia — for the adventure and insane landscapes

And that’s really what I love about travel.

You don’t always have to go where everyone else is going.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you find a place you’ve never heard of, stay somewhere completely unique, and come home with a story that you can’t stop talking about.

So if you’re building your travel bucket list, save these four.
