Where to stay in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala: Where I stayed The BEST and WORST places.

Hey Gems! You already know Matt and I travel for luxury stays, places to eat and adventuours things to do and we had the BEST time on our recent trip to Guatemala. Not only was it our first time in Guatemala, but it was also the first trip Matt and I have taken where we took a drive deep into another country since the pandemic. For this trip, I wanted to find a nice relaxing place to stay with beautiful views, and I’m so happy I did. One place was an Airbnb, and the other was a resort. Both I would rate highly, but for a VERY different reason; you’re not going to be able to guess.

I wanted to make this a relaxing vacation which meant choosing somewhere where that was comfortable but also near a lot of things to do so that we didn’t have to drive far. And let me tell you, Garuda’s Nest Airbnb has it all. It is located 5km or about 3 miles from Panajachel. You could probably spend a month there and find something new to do or a new place to visit daily. But not only that, it’s breathtaking!

Garuda’s Nest Airbnb is a getaway spot close to so many excellent restaurants and things to do. It’s rare that you find a place where the photos look 100% the same in real life. I would say it’s not the place to stay if you have small children with you because it is located on a cliff and the rails are open and exposed. But for adults, solo travelers, and couples, this place is everything and more. The design here is so well thought out it reminded me of something out of Architectural Digest Magazine. Matt and I stayed here for two days and this location was nothing short of perfection. I found myself waking up super early to take in the beautiful views.

While I’m ranting and raving about the lake house in Lake Atitlán, we also had a one-night stay at Tzampoc Resort, and let me say this. The 4.5-star reviews on google have to be for the scenic views, food, and service only because the rooms were not of 4-star quality. But before I get into the bad, let me take the time to point out everything I loved about this resort.

I feel like often at resorts, the food can be just average. That wasn’t the case at Tzampoc Resort. We had some incredible meals– way better than I expected. The resort has one dining option, but the menu ranges from traditional American dishes to Italian. The food and drinks were fantastic. I was obsessed with the margarita. I believe I had at least five, and the restaurant itself was gorgeous because of the view of the lake and sunset. It’s like eating in paradise!

The hospitality was great, the food was terrific, and the view here was stunning. However, I wouldn’t go back to stay. Tzampoc Resort This place was not as I expected. It was disappointing; the photos of the rooms look fantastic and will have you easily fall for the idea that the rooms are unique and, per the layout, is native to the culture of Guatemala but, in real life, are so different. If you’re interested in a short room tour, take the time to check out my Guatemala Vlog. The resort tour starts at minus mark 2:39
