Hidden Gems in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica for an Adventurous Summer

As I stepped foot on Jamaican soil, I felt an immediate sense of belonging. The heart of this adventure lies in connecting with your roots, and my visit to Jamaica allowed me to embrace the culture, stories, and traditions of my ancestors it was truly an enriching experience that added a unique layer to this trip.

Embracing Tranquility at Treasure Beach

While visiting Jamaica, Matt and I took some time to visit his family in St. Elizabeth. I NEEDED an escape from the bustling city and discovered the tranquility of Treasure Beach. Nestled along the southern coast, this secluded gem boasts breathtaking stretches of sandy shores and turquoise waters. I found this beautiful Airbnb called Treasure Beach Suite that is to die for. It sits right on the mountainside overlooking the beautiful ocean and sunset. Get more details here . I found serenity in watching the sunrise while enjoying a freshly picked mango and the evenings were filled with vibrant sunsets that painted the sky in an array of colors. It felt like a dream.

Nature's Masterpiece: YS Falls

Venturing into the heart of St. Elizabeth, there’s no way you visit all that way and not go to YS Falls, an enchanting oasis concealed amidst a lush jungle. The cascading waterfalls, natural swimming pools, and rope swings provided endless fun and a refreshing escape from the summer heat. I got it on a bad say “rainy season” the water wasn’t the pretty crystal blue I imagined it to be. Instead, we got the rain filled water that ended up turning it brown. Regardless my breath was taken away at the untouched beauty of this place and relished in the feeling of being connected to nature in its purest form.

A Taste of Heritage: Appleton Estate Rum Factory

Jamaica is renowned for its rum, and no visit to St. Elizabeth is complete without exploring the Appleton Estate Rum Factory. The guided tour not only delved into the intricate rum-making process but also shed light on the island’s rich history and sugar plantation heritage. From the aroma of the oak barrels to the taste of the aged rums, every moment was a celebration of Jamaican craftsmanship and legacy. At the end of the tour for an additional $60 USD you are able to pour your own rum from their privately aged barrel. This is the only place in the word you can get this Private Select Rum. You already know I couldn’t leave without getting my own bottle. 🙂

As I reflect on my adventurous summer in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, I am reminded that travel is not just about checking off popular destinations but also about embracing the unknown and exploring lesser-known corners of the world. It is in these hidden gems that we find the true essence of a place, connect with its people, and create memories that last a lifetime.
