WHAT IS EXFOLIATING?
Exfoliating is when you get rid of dead skin cells on your skin.
The epidermis (outer layer) of the skin renews every 28 days and turns over to new skin every 28 days. Think of it as your skin shedding. Exfoliating helps get rid of the dead skin on your face and helps you uncover glowing, texture free, and youthful skin.
HOW TO EXFOLIATE?
There are different ways to exfoliate the skin and because there are so many different ways it can be a bit imitating and confusing when trying to figure out which way is best but I’m here to make it easier for you. 🙂
- Exfoliating Sponge
This is my favorite way to exfoliate my face, but not only my face my skin too.
An exfoliating sponge gently exfoliates layers of dead skin and buffs away dullness from the face. I love it because it also massages the skin and stimulates circulation of the blood. I exfoliate with a sponge almost every day. If you’re new to exfoliating I would not recommend exfoliating more than 1x a week then slowly work your way up to 2-3x a week if you can. Try to avoid over exfoliating. Talk to your dermatologist to see how many times a week is safe for you skin type.
- Chemical Exfoliant
Exfoliating with chemical sounds so scary. I’ve been there, the thought of putting a chemical on your face makes you want to run far far away. But, Trust me. It’s simple and easy to use and if you use it right it can be really beneficial for your skin. The chemical exfoliant I like to use is The Ordinary AHA 30% + 2% Peeling Solution. It’s very effective and gives the skin a beautiful glow. It’s something you use 1x a week so it’s a low maintenance product and easy to use. I have a previous post on this exfoliator go ahead and check it out below.
- Exfoliating Scrub
Exfoliating scrubs can be applied directly to the skin or body to help get rid of dead skin sells and texture. I don’t agree with this form of exfoliating for the facial skin. The rough texture of sugar and walnut scrubs can be way too harsh for our facial skin. They can create small tears in the epidermis layer of the skin that will lead to long term damage like wrinkles and scars. You should stay FAR away from this type of exfoliating.
Exfoliating your face has so many benefits. It helps unclogs pours, it prevents acne, evens out skin tone and helps remove texture and gives you youthful glowing skin. Exfoliating is one of my favorite skincare steps to add to my routine. What is yours? xoxo – Diamond
